Set against the glimmering backdrop of Wellington Harbour,
brings to you yet another year of Wellington Fashion Week. Brought to the
catwalk this time is a proud New Zealand designer Label by the name of Moochi.
Wellington Fashion Week brings together the best of New Zealand’s designer fashion into an annual
industry-only event.
Shed 6 Wellington, which is hosting the event this year, was
jam-packed with street-style bloggers, videographers, photographers and
outlandish onlookers, hoping for their 15 minutes of fame.
Especially raucous applauding was at the end of the Moochi
show which left us drooling after seeing the 17 beautifully displayed outfits on Wednesday night. Voda Models Kim Sarten and Pim Puthipiroj strutted the catwalk confidently in their
wearable sophisticated looks incorporating plenty of black striped glitzy glam
and graphic text print patterns along with burnt tropico oranges, camo greens and
of course the odd splash of leopard print - every woman needs a bit of mumma
cheetah! The show had some sort of 'Oriental Thai Nature' lingering around the
atmosphere with charming over sized lanterns hanging at various levels above the catwalk. This
was definitely an eye pleaser and you could tell prior to the showcase that it was
going to be a fabulous time.
The show made me feel stuck in the moment. It reminded me of an action
packed business woman, but so calm and Zen at the same time. She has an effortless Ora about her. I could see forest, delicate bamboo leaves and airy wind chimes all in sync. Whether you wear
the garments casually or out to a neat evening… at the end of the night you are
going home feeling flawless as ever with your head held high and leaving the angelic explosion of blazing gazed
eyes behind you – just like walking away from a silent ticking time bomb
thinking, “yeah… I’m the Woman”, angels sing and everyone becomes starstruck. Then a subtle boom. The whole atmosphere blows up over
your sleek style! ‘This girl is on fire’.
The overall vibe the audience gained from this Moochi
opening showed the independence of a true self-motivated woman. This label in particular
was a great way to start off Wellington Fashion Week. Having shown the positive
and negative spaces by using different textured materials and earthy tones/patterns
seemed all so simple but all combined together as something incredible and
appealing to the eye. Having mastered the sophistication with a gist of nature
and the chic outcome took the audience back, showing genuine simplicity and
splashes of warm, neutral and earthy toned colour. This is a beneficial key
example to identify dominance and sincere serious business in a woman by not
making the look seem too masculine and too bold.
Along with the Mac cosmetic inspired makeup, using a medium/dark Byzantium Damson purple/black coloured lipstick is obviously the new in-thing
style statement that began by the singer/songwriter Lorde. This is enhanced with
the exotic winged eyeliner otherwise the brown lavish smokey eye shadow that
had a neat contrast with nude lips also. The lipstick overall created a new
statement on the face but then again looked all so natural and fitted well with
the naturalism of the colour choices picked in the A/W Moochi collections. The
hair was flat and side-parted in a 1990’s low ponytail, nicely straightened and
partially teased with silver or gold plated hair core tubes for the extra glam
accessory that brought out the clutch purses, bags and shoes! The look for the
second collection was half head in a floppy pony tail bun which gave the 90’s
casual urban street-style look.
The show consisted of straight box styled garments or crossed over, either
overhanging and long or fitted and cropped. The blazers were cute, nicely
tailored with stripes on stripes and text on text. The knit loose turtle neck jerseys looked full of comfort as well did the loose free flowing chiffon dresses. It was even mixed up a
little with stripes and leopard print or stripes and a spark of orange. Black on black played a major role throughout the showcase using different materials to enhance the statement of professionalism and embellishment - almost a feminine new-aged retro gothic style. The 'Chev Heel' made a pure statement of its own - busy and strict, the open toe and transparent spaces gave you a feminine Autumn seasoned boot/stiletto typed heel and clearly suited every styled look on the catwalk. The
black stripes also incorporated a transparent mesh for a different texture. The
tops were styled correctly with the drop crotch, almost ninja-like, trousers that sat on the
waist and naturally flowed together as a one-piece. Either way,
the designer has definitely met everyone's requirements and expectations when it
comes to looking for a nice new outfit for work, casual wear or outings. Here is a link to Moochi Website, I am feeling pretty determined to purchase something from Moochi Lane some time soon before the season really begins to kick in, so I assume you should too!
